03.11.2015

President Toomas Hendrik Ilves will make an official visit to Denmark on 5 and 6 November.

The goal of the visit is to confirm and strengthen the co-operation between Estonia and Denmark as close allies in the European Union and NATO and to give some impetus to the economic and political relations between the two countries.

Queen Margarethe II will give an audience to the Estonian Head of State.

President Ilves will meet with the Prime Minister of Denmark, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, to discuss bilateral and regional co-operation, the migration crisis and the situation in the refugees' countries of origin, as well as Estonian-Danish and Trans-Atlantic security co-operation, which will include the sphere of cyber security.

President Ilves will also meet with the speaker of the Danish Parliament, Pia Kjærsgaard, and will place a wreath at the monument at Kastellet, Copenhagen, in honour of the Danish soldiers killed in international missions.

The University of Copenhagen and Foreign Policy Society have organised a security policy discussion between President Ilves and the former Minister for Foreign Affairs of Denmark and friend of Estonia, Uffe Ellemann-Jensen, which is entitled "Stability in the Baltic Sea Region – Reality or Illusion?".

The Estonian Head of State will be accompanied by a business delegation; he will meet with the economic leaders of Denmark in Copenhagen and take part in an IT round table organised by the Confederation of Danish Industry.

The President will also meet with members of the Estonian community in Denmark and Southern Sweden.

The official delegation that accompanies President Ilves includes the Minister of Defence, Hannes Hanso, and the members of the Riigikogu, Yoko Alender and Henn Põlluaas.
