"Many congratulations to Bulgaria on your national holiday. I wish your country and your people prosperity and success," wrote President Toomas Hendrik Ilves in a letter of congratulations sent to the Bulgarian Head of State, Rosen Plevneliev.

"Bulgaria is our important ally in both the European Union and NATO. The new, more fragile security situation requires even more co-operation – I am sure that Estonia and Bulgaria will continue to combine their efforts to stand for a strong and unified European Union," emphasised the Estonian Head of State.

According to the President, Estonia and Bulgaria stand together for the responsible European Union financial and economic policies that comply with jointly established rules, eastern partnership, integration of the Balkan region – incl. further European integration of Serbia – and the free movement of citizens, with the latter being one of the most important fundamental freedoms.

"Estonia is always on-hand to share its e-governance experiences and solutions with Bulgaria and confirms its continued support to Bulgaria becoming a part of the Schengen visa area and the OECD," wrote President Ilves.
