The President of Estonia and Mrs. Evelin Ilves will go on a state visit to Georgia

On Monday morning, President Toomas Hendrik Ilves and Mrs. Evelin Ilves will start their state visit to Georgia, the purpose of which is to affirm Estonia’s support for Georgia’s European aspirations.

“We want to reiterate a clear message to the Georgians—Georgia is not alone, its actions are being followed, and we are interested in its welfare,” said the Estonian Head of State. “Georgia deserves Europe’s support. Firstly, because it is doing things properly; secondly, because it is helping itself and thereby allowing others to help it; and thirdly, because it has proven that it can achieve positive results.”

On Monday, President Ilves and Mrs. Evelin Ilves will meet with Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili and Parliament Speaker Nino Burjanadze, as well as inaugurate the Parliament’s digital stenography system, which is a gift from Estonia. They will also participate in an Estonian-Georgian business seminar.

On Tuesday, the Estonian Head of State will meet with Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli, give a lecture at Tbilisi University, open a reception at the Estonian Embassy, and become acquainted with local businesses.

On Wednesday, the President of the Republic and Mrs. Evelin Ilves will be in Batum, where they will meet with leaders of the Autonomous Republic of Ajara and visit local enterprises.

President Ilves will be accompanied on the state visit by a 42-member business delegation, which will be led by Toomas Luman, President of the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The Estonian Head of State will leave Georgia on Wednesday evening.
