The President of the Republic of Latvia, Raimonds Vējonis, and Iveta Vējone last night hosted the Head of State of Estonia, Toomas Hendrik Ilves, and Ieva Ilves in Jūrmala. The main issues discussed at the meeting of presidents included the recent NATO Summit in Warsaw, the further steps of the Baltic states in ensuring security, relations between the United Kingdom and the European Union and e-governance related co-operation between Estonia and Latvia.

The presidents focused on the summit of the NATO heads of state and government in Warsaw. "The NATO Summit gave us confidence, once again, that the protection of all the allies is important for the alliance; this is confirmed by the decision to deploy additional units of the allied forces in the Baltic states and Poland," said President Ilves.

The influence of the Brexit decision of the United Kingdom on Europe was also discussed as an important topic. The Estonian Head of State and Latvian President agreed that relations between the European Union and the United Kingdom must remain as close as possible in all spheres in the future.

President Ilves expressed his hope that Estonia and Latvia could have successful future co-operation in the sphere of e-governance. "In recent years, Estonia has steadfastly contributed to co-operation with Finland to establish cross-border public e-governance services that would be beneficial for both Finns in Estonia and Estonians in Finland. I do believe that similar co-operation should also be launched with Latvia in future," he added.
