President Ilves: the horrible tragedy at Säämäjärvi touches the humanity in all of us

President Toomas Hendrik Ilves expressed his condolences in the wake of the accident in Säämajärvi, Karelia, in which many children lost their lives.

"Today's day of mourning in Karelia and Moscow, announced following the loss of life of so many children at Säämajärvi, touches the humanity in all of us. This is a horrible tragedy. A school holiday that the young people – including orphans and children from under privileged families – were eagerly looking forward to, suddenly became a stormy and freezing nightmare. I bow my head in sorrow and mourning. Our condolences are with the next of kin and friends of the deceased," said President Ilves.
