President Ilves to take part in Munich Security Conference

From today until Sunday President Toomas Hendrik Ilves will take part in the 51st Munich Security Conference, which this year will focus primarily on European security issues in response to the Russian-Ukrainian war, hybrid war and cyber defence.

President Ilves will speak at the Munich Security Conference in a number debates that will discuss Ukraine, information war, e-governance and corruption issues.

The Munich Security Conference is the most important annual trans-Atlantic security and foreign policy forums, which this time will bring together approximately 20 heads of state, 60 ministers and 30 leaders of global companies. Among others, the Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel; the President of Finland, Sauli Niinistö; the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Sergei Lavrov; and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Kingdom, Philip Hammond, have expressed their intention to participate. Former Secretary General of the UN, Kofi Annan; Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg; High Representative of the European Union for the Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Frederica Mogherini, and President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz, have also confirmed their presence.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Estonia, Keit Pentus-Rosimannus, will accompany the President to the conference and also has a schedule of bilateral meetings.
