Evelin Ilves met today in Dublin with the members of Estonian Culture and Sports Society in Ireland and the leaders of the Green School project, whose objective it is to introduce students to an environmentally sounder and healthier lifestyle, using different activities and events as learning tools.

At the Estonian society Evelin Ilves met with female folk dance group "Iirised" and the sports club and then met with the leaders of the Estonian Children's Learn and Play Circle which, from this autumn, will bear the name 'Estonian School in Ireland'.

Bread was baked together at the meeting with the local Estonian community.

Evelin Ilves also met today with the leaders of the Green School project in Dublin. The goal of the schools that have joined the project – known internationally as eco-schools – is to hold high the flag of a nature-friendly attitude. Green School is an international education programme, operating today in more than 50 countries all over the world, involving more than 40,000 schools, 11 million students and 850,000 teachers.

According to Evelin Ilves, the Green School project includes all the components of a healthy lifestyle – important for both people and the environment – and can be therefore described as unique.

"Children soon realise the role and responsibility they all share in ensuring our common wellbeing, starting with the issues of over-consumption and coming down to the importance of exercise and clean food," Evelin Ilves added.
