Toomas Hendrik Ilves and Evelin Ilves to divorce

17.04.2015

Toomas Hendrik Ilves and Evelin Ilves have decided to dissolve their marriage, which was concluded in 2004. They have reached this decision mutually. According to their agreement, the divorce will take effect on 30 April 2015.

Toomas Hendrik Ilves and Evelin Ilves will share custody of their daughter.

Ärma farm will remain the sole property of Toomas Hendrik Ilves and will be used as his official residence as the President of the Republic.

Once the divorce becomes effective, Evelin Ilves will no longer enjoy the benefits of a spouse of the President of the Republic, arising from the President of the Republic Official Benefits Act.

Toomas Hendrik Ilves and Evelin Ilves both see their decision to divorce as a personal matter and one that is not related to the professional activities of the Head of State. They ask the public and media to consider, first and foremost, the interests and well-being of their young daughter and be understanding at this time.
