Evelin Ilves paid a visit today to Muhu Basic School and Valjala Basic School, where she met with students and praised the healthy food cooked by the school cooks.

"Lunch break is as important as lessons. The content of what is offered is important, but we should also not forget the way the food is served – this is a part of culture and education," told Evelin Ilves.

She tasted the school lunch that is offered to students in Muhu Basic School, and asked to what extent Muhu school is making use of local raw materials for cooking, what meals they cook and how complicated is menu planning and placing orders for ingredients. Evelin Ilves was also given the recipe of one of the favourite meals of Muhu Basic School children – exotic azu or Tatar meat stew.

"It was extremely pleasant to learn that the major share of raw materials come from the same area. And the children praise their cooks to high heaven," Evelin Ilves added.

In January, Evelin Ilves paid a visit to Johannes Waldorf School and Kindergarten in Rosma village, Põlva rural municipality. In December, the First Lady visited Vääna Manor School, where she told students about healthy eating habits and inspected the school diner and library, and in February, Evelin Ilves got to know students of Jüri Gymnasium in Rae rural municipality.
