Evelin Ilves visited the Johannes School and Kindergarten in Rosma village

20.01.2012

Evelin Ilves today visited the Johannes School and Kindergarten in Rosma village, Põlva rural municipality; the school uses a Waldorf school syllabus to teach the children.

According to Evelin Ilves, the main strength of the Rosma Schools is the co-operation between teachers and parents – their desire and skill to offer the children a harmonious growing environment by harnessing so-called organic pedagogy.

“One can sense the most wonderful aura at the very doorstep – every child care institution would be happy to have children so joyous, open and healthy during this season of viruses,” Evelin Ilves admitted. “I experienced something that could be described as unbelievable – how a stress free learning environment and healthy food, cooked from locally grown and mostly organic raw materials, combines to form an energetic and happy school family. I am no longer surprised that many families have moved to Põlva country solely because of this school,” she added.

The Johannes School is a public education school that was established in 1989 through a local civic initiative. Today, 45 students from different local authorities of South Estonia study in this school. The kindergarten was established in 1992 and is currently attended by 28 children.

School catering comes from Kolme Sõsara Hõrgutised (Three Sisters’ delicacies), which is a company that promotes local food culture.
