President Ilves met with Estonian soldiers at the Headley Court Rehabilitation Center

President Toomas Hendrik Ilves visited the Headley Court Rehabilitation Center on Friday and met with two Estonian soldiers who were wounded in Afghanistan and are being treated at the Center.

"I thank you and your fellow soldiers for defending Estonia and our allies, for defending the security of all countries that care about a more peaceful world,” the Head of State said.

According to President Ilves, the members of the Defence Forces serving on dangerous missions in Afghanistan or Iraq must be sure of the country’s support, even after being wounded.

“Estonia will not leave the future of you or your families to chance. We will do everything to guarantee the best opportunities for rehabilitation and readjustment to society,” president Ilves affirmed, recalling that a draft law for the more effective regulation of this sphere has passed through its first reading in the Riigikogu. “It is also important that wounded soldiers be able to continue serving Estonia in the Defence Forces.”

President Ilves also met with the soldiers’ doctors and thanked them for the complicated and difficult work performed by the personnel at the Headley Court Rehabilitation Center for the soldiers wounded in NATO operations.
