Estonia's President visited the United States aircraft carrier USS Enterprise

Yesterday morning, President Toomas Hendrik Ilves flew to the United States aircraft carrier, the USS Enterprise, which is on operations in the Mediterranean and which plays a central role in the Carrier Strike Group 12 battle group that comprises eight warships.

The Estonian Head of State, who landed on the world’s first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, visited the command center of the USS Enterprise, was introduced to its various defensive and offensive weapons systems and shown the daily life of the almost 5,000-member crew.

“As a NATO member state, it is self-evident that we should know as much as possible about our allies, their possibilities and capabilities,” said President Ilves.

The Estonian Head of State added that the USS Enterprise, which has participated in many US and NATO operations since the Cuban missile crisis, is currently operating in a very important region for the alliance and in the vicinity of an operational area that is a top security priority.
