The President, Toomas Hendrik Ilves, tonight made an entry into the book of condolences opened in the Embassy of France in Tallinn to commemorate the people killed in the terrorist attacks at the offices of the Charlie Hebdo satirical magazine, and later in Paris.

"On these grievous days, we will stand steadfastly next to the people of France. The values that you have given us since the days of Voltaire are worth defending and we must now fight for them. You can be sure that Estonia, the Estonian people and I will do everything within our power to defend these values," President Ilves wrote. "Our deepest sympathies go out to the victims of the families of these terrorist attacks. Here, in a little corner of Europe, we are all French today."
