President Ilves expresses condolences to France

07.01.2015

"I was shocked to the very core of my soul by the terrorist act that took place today at the offices of Charlie Hedbo in Paris, and claimed the lives of multiple victims," wrote the President, Toomas Hendrik Ilves, in a letter of condolence sent to the President of France, François Hollande.

"We must remain decisive and united in defending our values – with freedom of speech and opinion being an inseparable part of it – as we stand against inner evil, hatred and violence, which deny freedom of speech. Estonia mourns with the next of kin and friends of the people who were killed in this act of violence, and our thoughts are with those who were injured and their families. In these difficult days, France shall remain in the thoughts of Estonia," added the Estonian Head of State.
