President Ilves to meet with the heads of state of Latvia, Lithuania and Poland today

Today, Toomas Hendrik Ilves, President of the Republic of Estonia, in fulfilling the duties arising from Estonia's presidency of the Council of the Baltic Sea States, will host the heads of state of Latvia and Lithuania, Andris Bērziņš and Dalia Grybauskaitė, in Kõue Manor. Bronisław Komorowski, President of Poland, will also take part in the meeting of the Baltic presidents as an important regional partner and security ally.

The issues discussed at the meeting of the Baltic and Polish presidents shall include the security situation in Europe in the wake of the Russian aggression, relations between the EU and Russia, NATO and Russia, the situation in Ukraine, energy security, the digital common market, regional co-operation, the eastern partnership of the European Union and strategic communication, a NATO Centre of Excellence for which was recently opened in Latvia.

The last meeting of the presidents of the Baltic states took place in Birini Castle, Latvia, in 2013 and the previous meeting between the four heads of states took place in December 2011 at Vihula Manor, Estonia. On the eve of the previous meeting, President Ilves said that the Baltic states and Poland form a regional force to be reckoned with; co-operation between the Baltic Sea region in general will allow our voice to be even louder.
