President Ilves expressed condolences to the Netherlands

21.07.2014

The President, Toomas Hendrik Ilves, tonight visited the Netherlands Embassy in Tallinn and made an entry into a book of condolences, which was opened after the crash of a Malaysia Airlines airplane above Eastern Ukraine.

"We small nations always feel tragedies more strongly," the Head of State wrote.

"Thus we Estonians understand and feel especially strongly your loss. You can count on Estonia in this time of sorrow, just as you can count on us at other times as allies, as fellow Europeans, as close friends. Please accept my condolences and the condolences of the Estonian people at this difficult time," President Ilves added.

MH17 came down last Thursday, in Eastern Ukraine. The aircraft was travelling from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur with 283 passengers and 15 crew members on board. 193 Dutch people lost their lives in the disaster.
