President of the Republic Receiving of the Badge of the North Eagle, The Highest Award of Noored Kotkad (the Young Eagles) conferred upon him, 18 October 2007

18.10.2007

Thank you for conferring upon me the highest award of the Young Eagles – the Badge of the North Eagle.

The Young Eagles present a worthy opportunity for young people to take their first steps on the path of patriotism, on the path of guarding their country and caring for their country.

The Chief Elder of the Young Eagles, Silver Tamm, who joined you already at the age of nine, is an embodiment of all these solid principles. The Defence League, service in the Defence Forces, Tartu University, then back to the Defence League and now – Chief Elder of the Young Eagles – a straight and discerning path taken in the service of one’s country.

In the last fifteen years, the Young Eagles have given us more than Defence Leaguers and members of the Defence Forces – also good public servants, busy IT-specialists, successful businessmen, diligent workers and simply dignified citizens.

As Head of State I assure you that Young Eagles and Home Daughters, just as Boy Scouts and Girl Guides, are very important voluntary youth organisations. You help to make Estonia’s present and future safer. You are an example to your contemporaries, helping your generation to grow up better and healthier.

Young Eagles and your leaders, may your days be filled with adventures, may you find the right paths and may your dreams come true!

For the glory of your country, be prepared!

Thank you!
