The President of the Republic announced a competition for historical research papers

02.09.2013

On the occasion of the beginning of the new school year, President Toomas Hendrik Ilves announced a competition entitled "Heritage is Inheritance" for research papers by historians.

The competition, which is being held for the fifteenth year and is under the patronage of the President, Toomas Hendrik Ilves, is intended for students in order to intensify young people's interest in history and to teach them to see connections between the past and the present. In 2013, the competition is dedicated to cultural heritage, emphasised by this year's theme – "Heritage is Inheritance".

The competition is being organised by the Estonian History Teachers' Association and supported by the President of the Republic's Cultural Foundation and the Ministry of Education and Research.

The competition takes place within the framework of EUSTORY, a co-operation network for history research papers of young Europeans, which joins 22 European countries.

The research papers will be evaluated by a jury that is comprised of representatives from various scientific institutions and organisations. The evaluation will be based on the originality of the research paper, the use of information sources, skill at synthesising, and the relevance of the paper to the topic.

The deadline for submitting papers is 1 April 2013, and the rules for the competition are available on the website of the Estonian History Teachers' Association at http://www.eays.edu.ee/.
