President Ilves to meet with the Secretary General of NATO and the European Commissioner for Digital Agenda and participate in a security policy conference

President Toomas Hendrik Ilves left today for a working visit to Brussels. The Estonian Head of State will participate in a three-day influential security policy conference, Brussels Forum 2013, which brings together the shapers of foreign and security policies, experts and politicians from both Europe and the United States of America. In his address tonight, President Ilves will ask whether the economic crisis reflects a cultural gap between Northern and Southern Europe and will tomorrow speak at the conference about transparency, freedom and security of the Internet.

On Monday, 18 March, President Ilves will meet in Brussels with Anders Fogh Rasmussen, NATO Secretary General, to discuss the future of the alliance after the operation in Afghanistan. The Estonian Head of State will also meet Neelie Kroes, the European Commissioner for Digital Agenda, where they will focus on the international compatibility of e-services, the cloud data processing strategy and e-health issues. Since last November, President Ilves has been chairing, at the request of the European Commission, the Steering Board of the European Cloud Partnership.

President Ilves will return to Estonia on 19 March.
