President Ilves congratulated Barack Obama on winning the US Presidential election

07.11.2012

The Estonian Head of State, Toomas Hendrik Ilves, sent his congratulations to Barack Obama on being re-elected as the President of the United States of America.

Europe and the United States of America stand for common challenges; both our economies need fresh impetus and our security system must be ready to face today's – not yesterday's – threats, wrote President Ilves.

Liberal democracies such as the European Union and the United States of America shoulder the obligation and responsibility to stand for our common values, which are being threatened by both authoritarian capitalism and physical or cyber terrorism, stated the Estonian Head of State.

"Estonia, a supporter of Trans-Atlantic co-operation in the European Union and a committed ally in NATO, will do everything possible to maintain the strong links between us. Together, we can achieve more than any individual alone," President Ilves wrote.
