President Ilves to depart for a working visit to the United States

The President, Toomas Hendrik Ilves, will today leave for a working visit to the USA, during which he will attend the regular session of the General Assembly of the United Nations and a number of high-level meetings as well as focus on issues related to cyber security and a state based on the rule of law.

President Ilves, who will give a speech to the UN General Assembly introducing the positions of Estonia, will also meet with the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, and a number of heads of state. At the invitation of the organisers, President Ilves will give a speech at the Freedom House Annual Awards Dinner and Billington Cybersecurity Summit; he will also give a presentation at the 12th global forum of opinion leaders, the UN high-level meeting on the rule of law and a linked event focusing on corruption, which is being organised by Estonia, Austria and Tunisia.

The Head of State will speak about an Internet freedom report at a Freedom of the Net event in Washington via a video link within the framework of his visit.

President Ilves and Evelin Ilves will participate in a reception organised by the President of the United States, Barack Obama and Mrs. Michelle Obama, and meet the local Estonian community in Estonian House. President Ilves will also be the key speaker at the 60th anniversary gala of the Estonian-American National Council.

Evelin Ilves will visit the Estonian School in Washington and present children's books to the school as a patron of the Estonian Children's Literature Centre. Evelin Ilves will also participate in a reception organised by the wife of the UN Secretary General, visit a farm and school participating in the Farm to School project and an event to introduce the cuisine of the European Union Member States at the French Cultural Centre.

President Ilves and Evelin Ilves will return to Estonia on 1 October.
