President Ilves to visit the United States of America

President Toomas Hendrik Ilves is due to fly to the United States of America for a working visit on Thursday, where he is expected to speak to the Atlantic Council, Washington, and deliver a lecture at Harvard University.

President Toomas Hendrik Ilves is due to fly to the United States of America for a working visit on Thursday, where he is expected to speak to the Atlantic Council, Washington, and deliver a lecture at Harvard University.

The Estonian Head of State will meet with the American leaders of the Atlantic Council, an influential foreign and security policy think-tank and political centre, which will be followed by a public lecture about NATO and European security in the 21st century.

President Ilves will participate and give a presentation at the “Europe and Trans-Atlantic Security” workshop at Harvard University; Estonian students, studying in Harvard, will also be present there.

The Estonian Head of State will open the annual meeting of the Estonian Global Council in Washington.

President Ilves will also hand over the Order of the Cross of Terra Mariana, Class IV, bestowed upon the diplomat of the United States of America, Mr. Matthew J. Bryza, on the eve of this year’s Independence Day, at the Estonian Embassy in Washington. The decoration was awarded to the diplomat to acknowledge his contribution to the co-operation between Estonia and the USA in promoting democracy and stability in Eastern and Southern Europe and the Southern Caucasus region, but also co-operation between Estonia and the USA in solving European energy security issues.
