President Ilves will present the Order of the Cross of Terra Mariana to Polish film director Andrzej Wajda

President Toomas Hendrik Ilves will leave on a three-day visit to Poland today, where he will participate in events related to the anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising in 1944 in Warsaw and Wisla. During the visit, the Estonian Head of State will also meet with Polish President Lech Kaczyński.

On Friday, President Ilves will present the Order of the Cross of Terra Mariana to Andrzej Wajda, the famous Polish director and creator of the film „Katyn“. The film, which was nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Film, describes the killing of Polish officers, who were captured by the Red Army, by the NKVD in Katyn in 1940.

On Friday, the Estonian and Polish Heads of State will participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Warsaw military cemetery.

The visit will continue on Saturday in Wisla with a bilateral meeting, where questions related to bilateral relations, the Lisbon Treaty, Baltic Sea strategy, European Union energy policies, and international military missions are to be discussed. On Sunday, President Ilves together with the Polish Head of State will participate in a formal ceremony at the Warsaw Uprising Museum.

President Ilves will arrive back in Estonia on Monday.
