President Ilves will travel on an official visit to the Kingdom of Denmark today

Today, September 6th, President Toomas Hendrik Ilves and Mrs. Evelin Ilves will travel on an official visit to the Kingdom of Denmark.

According to President Ilves, relations between Estonia and Denmark are characterized by close cooperation at the political level and in fields of economics and culture. “Denmark is our good partner in the European Union and NATO, as well as in the Council of the Baltic Sea States and in the course of Baltic and Nordic cooperation,” noted President Ilves, adding that Danish defence specialists have provided a great deal of valuable help for building up Estonia’s defence structures and has coordinated many international projects for the development of the national defence of the Baltic countries.

The Estonian Head of State will meet with Danish Parliament Speaker Christian Mejdahl and Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen on September 7th, with whom a joint press conference will be held.

On the same day, President Ilves and Mrs. Evelin Ilves will attend a luncheon hosted by Danish Queen Margrethe II.

On Friday afternoon, President Ilves will give a speech at the Danish Foreign Policy Association, and the visit will conclude with a dinner hosted by Estonia’s honorary consul, Count Ulrich Holstein-Holsteinborg.

The Estonian Head of State will arrive back in Tallinn on September 8th.
