President Ilves discussed the establishment of a cybersecurity center in Tallinn with King Juan Carlos

At today’s meeting between Estonian Head of State Toomas Hendrik Ilves and Spanish King Juan Carlos, both stated that the good relations between the two countries should definitely be further intensified.

At the meeting, the topic of cyber security was discussed at length. “I sincerely hope that Spain will send its experts to the cyber security center to be created in Estonia, who will be able to analyze our experiences in respect to the recent attacks, and to be prepared for similar situations in the future themselves. These attacks will certainly not be the last in history,” said the Estonian President.

“Cultural relations between Estonia and Spain have developed very well,” noted President Ilves. In the course of this visit, an educational and cultural cooperation agreement will be signed, which we hope will help develop cooperation in the field of student exchanges.”

In the conversation with King Juan Carlos, relations with Russia were also briefly discussed. “First and foremost, a direct and frank dialogue is needed with Russia, and naturally, a common position must be formulated among the European Union members in this regard,” commented the Estonian Head of State. “We are interested in a business-like dialogue with Russia, but this must be mutually business-like, and not be overshadowed by the harassment of embassies, denials of history, threats to install offensive rockets in Europe, concealed economic sanctions, and the use of oil and gas deliveries for foreign policy purposes by one party,” explained President Ilves.
