President Ilves will accept the ‘Golden Victoria’ award in Berlin, meet with the Head of State of Germany and give a presentation at the German Society for Foreign Policy

The President, Toomas Hendrik Ilves, will depart for a working visit to Berlin, Germany, today.

Tomorrow night, Verband Deutscher Zeitschriftenverleger, a reputable association of publishers of German magazines that brings together more than 400 publishers – will present the 'Golden Victoria' award to Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania on the eve of the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. This represents acknowledgment for restoring our independence, promoting European values, integrating with Europe and the successful economic and political reforms of the three countries. The awards will be accepted by presidents Toomas Hendrik Ilves, Dalia Grybauskaitė and Andris Bērziņš.

In the past, 'Golden Victoria' awards have been presented to the President of Germany, Joachim Gauck, to Donald Tusk during his term as the Prime Minister of Poland, and to former Secretaries of State of the Unites States of America, Henry Kissinger and Hans-Dietrich Genscher.

The Head of State of Germany, Joachim Gauck, will host an official dinner in Berlin to honour the presidents of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

President Ilves will also give a presentation at the German Society for Foreign Policy, where he will focus on the drastically changed international security situation in Europe, the new challenges that NATO and the European Union are facing and Germany's leading role in standing for the values of the European Union.

The Head of State will return to Estonia on 7 November.
