President Ilves to participate in Internet governance meeting organised by World Economic Forum

28.08.2014

The President, Toomas Hendrik Ilves, arrived on a working visit to Geneva where he will today participate in an international Internet governance meeting for the establishment of the so-called NETmundial initiative, which takes place at the initiative of the World Economic Forum.

Civil society, political and industrial leaders from many countries will attend the meeting. The meeting will discuss the options for extending the Internet governance knowledge of leaders of various spheres and consider user rights in terms of freedom of expression, privacy and security, thereby providing common grounds for understanding and the faster solving of problems stemming from Internet governance.

The aim of the so-called NETmundial initiative is to maintain a free and uniform Internet, which has brought the world economic success and changed social processes considerably; involving and open methods of Internet governance are needed in every region of the world to reach this goal.
