Mrs. Evelin Ilves today awarded letters of recognition to accomplished grandmothers and grandfathers, who were chosen by the Grandparents’ Foundation. This year, the Grandmother of the Year and Grandfather of the Year were awarded for the first time. Letters of recognition were awarded to Aurelie Kaldoja, Elvi-Aino and Anton Leitmäe, Eda Tamm, Helin Ristla, Heli Martin, and Aino and Olev Okas. The title of the Grandmother of the Year was awarded to Ilvi Roostar and Grandfather of the Year to Tõnis Ülemaantee. Congratulations!

The First Lady, Mrs. Evelin Ilves, will be awarding letters of recognition to accomplished grandmothers and grandfathers, who were chosen by the Grandparents’ Foundation. This year, the Grandmother of the Year and Grandfather of the Year were elected for the first time.

The proposal to begin selecting the Grandmother of the Year and Grandfather of the Year, apart from the Mother of the Year and Father of the Year, was made last year by Mrs. Evelin Ilves. “The society must also give credit to grandparents as well as parents,” Mrs. Evelin Ilves said.

The event, which was organised by the Grandparents’ Foundation and Self-Help and Advisory Centre for Senior Citizens, is in its fourth year. This year, 10 grandfathers and grandmothers from all over Estonia will be acknowledged.

The purpose of the Estonian Grandparents’ Foundation is to value home and family – the accomplishments of grandparents. The foundation wishes to acknowledge grandparents who have been outstanding in their achievements, for their care and love, reconstruction of society, active approach to life, and attitude in general.

The event to acknowledge grandparents will take place today, 2nd November, at 12 o’clock in the Self-Help and Advisory Centre for Senior Citizens (Tallinn J. Poska 15). Journalists are welcome to cover the event.
