This evening, President Toomas Hendrik Ilves and Evelin Ilves wrapped up their two-day state visit to Romania.

This morning, the Estonian Head of State met with the core team of "Let's Do It, Romania!", who were inspired by the Estonian initiative "Teeme ära!".

""Teeme ära!" was the beginning of a new way of doing things," President Ilves said. He recalled that the totalitarian regimes both in Estonia and Romania have been liberated from the sowed mistrust among people and ruled out civil activities. "Now people must be brought together again for common actions. We will do it; we will do it well. The voluntary sector is part of our democracy," the Estonian Head of State emphasised.

The first "Teeme ära!" clean-up day took place in Romania in 2010; this year – last weekend – nearly 150,000 people took part in the "Let's do it, Romania!" clean-up action.

Today, President Ilves met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Titus Corlăţean and Communications Minister Dan Nica; yesterday, he met with the President of Romania Traian Băsescu, the head of the Parliament Senate Crin Antonescu, and Prime Minister Victor Ponta, and also attended a working lunch at the Romanian Chamber of Commerce, where he encouraged entrepreneurs to co-operate more closely, especially in the field of IT.

President Ilves was the first foreign President to visit the Memorial of Rebirth and commemorate the more than one thousand Romanians who lost their lives in the Revolution of 1989, and he laid a wreath at the monument of Corneliu Coposu, a political prisoner during the Soviet period, referred to as the conscience of Romania.

Evelin Ilves accompanied the wife of the President of Romania Maria Băsescu to Cotroceni National Museum and the kindergarten for hearing-impaired children. Evelin Ilves also visited the Nationial Village Museum in Bucharest and the historically and culturally significant Sinaia Monastery and Peleș Castle.

The official delegation of President Ilves includes the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Mikk Marran, the chairman of the board of the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Toomas Luman, and the representative of "Teeme ära!", Meelika Hirmo.

The business delegation includes Allan Aru (Featherie Invest OÜ/Ecometal AS), Mihail Beregoi and Tiit Vapper (Real Systems AS), Alar Salum (Krimelte AS), Hannes Plinte (Girf OÜ/GOSwift), Kaido Saar (BigBank), Jaanus Tamm (Defendec OÜ), and Mait Palts and Liis Lehesalu from the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

President Ilves will leave Bucharest for a working visit to Moldova. He will return to Estonia on Saturday evening.
