President Ilves to the best school graduates: “I envy you.”

21.06.2013

The President, Toomas Hendrik Ilves and Evelin Ilves hosted 400 of this year's best school graduates in Kadriorg rose garden.

"You are all graduates, but in fact this is only the beginning," told President Ilves to the young people. "Once you finish acquiring your education, in a way your road will come to an end."

The Head of State encouraged the young people, regardless of their chosen speciality, to consider how they could incorporate their knowledge with information technology. And vice versa, how could young people who have studied IT continue to study disciplines such as biology, for example.

"Even during the highs levels of unemployment, we still lacked qualified labour in the IT sphere. We are only beginning to understand what a digitised society actually means. You are about to do incredible things in the future, things that have been never done before," assured President Ilves.

"My huge, huge congratulations; I envy you," said President Ilves, in addressing the best school graduates.

The 230 best gymnasium and secondary school graduates, 30 best vocational school graduates and 140 best university graduates were invited to the reception, which was hosted by President Ilves and Evelin Ilves.

Marten Kuningas and Etturid performed for the young people.
