President Toomas Hendrik Ilves offered the position of security adviser to Merle Maigre, who has been working for the past two years under the assignment of the Ministry of Defence at the Policy Planning Unit of the Secretary General of NATO in Brussels.

Maigre has worked as a researcher at the International Centre for Defence Studies, where she specialised in defence and security policy developments in Ukraine and was in charge of launching and running the Project Civil-Military Relations in Estonia and International Good Practice. In 2005-2007, she was deputy head of the NATO mission in Kiev, Ukraine; prior to that, she worked in the Ministry of Defence and in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to a previous agreement, the current security adviser, Andres Vosman, will resume working at the Ministry of Defence.
