President Ilves attends opening of Koidula border railway station

03.09.2011

President Toomas Hendrik Ilves says that the Koidula border railway station, which was officially opened today and which represents Estonia’s biggest ever single investment in infrastructure, will make crossing the Russian border much easier for both goods and passengers and will reduce the tension that currently exists on the external border of the European Union.

The Estonian head of state said that the completion of the station was a step in the direction of speed and flexibility: “Quick connections are vital if you want to be successful today,” he said.

The president said the station was an example of the way in which Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland should work together to create quicker connections to the rest of Europe.
