President Ilves to embark upon working visit to Munich and Rome

The President, Mr. Toomas Hendrik Ilves, will tomorrow embark upon a working visit to Munich and Rome to take part in a conference dedicated to the 60th anniversary of Radio Free Europe and the beatification ceremony of Pope John Paul II in Vatican.

In Munich, President Ilves will participate in a conference entitled “Voices of Freedom – Western Interference? 60 Years of Radio Free Europe in Munich and Prague” and in a panel discussion, “International Broadcasting Today”, at the conference.

The Estonian Head of State will give a presentation at Ludwig-Maximilian University within the framework of his visit, where students of history, political science and East-European studies as well as Fenno-Ugristics and students of the university are welcome to listen to the presentation and take part in the discussion that will follow.

In Munich, President Ilves will meet with an influential German politician, the former Defence Minister, Mr. Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Affairs of the Landtag of Bavaria, Dr. Martin Zeil.

On 1 May, President Ilves and Mrs. Evelin Ilves will participate at the invitation of the Holy See in the beatification ceremony of the Pope John Paul II in the Vatican. John Paul II was one of the most influential persons of the 20th century and he gave an immense contribution to fighting against communism. He is therefore also highly appreciated in Estonia.

President Toomas Hendrik Ilves will return to Estonia on 2 May.
