Cultural Foundation of the President of the Republic calls for submission of candidatures for Young Cultural Figure Award

The Cultural Foundation of the President of the Republic launched the competition for the Young Cultural Figure Award, which has prize money of 4,793 euros (75,000 Estonian kroons; the accurate exchange rate will be applied upon the transfer of the award).

The Young Cultural Figure Award is presented to a cultural figure of Estonian descent of the age of 35 or younger, whose accomplishments in the field of creative arts have won widespread recognition or who has, with his or her works or activities in the field of creative arts, considerably contributed to promoting Estonia and Estonian culture worldwide. The Young Cultural Figure Award of the Cultural Foundation is financed by Toomas Luman.

Applications are due by 13 May 2011. Candidates may be nominated by young cultural figures themselves or their supervisors, teachers, employers, etc., as well as members of the Board of the Cultural Foundation.

To apply, the following documents must be submitted: a written application with personal data and a short CV (name, address, education, professional career); a description of creative work; recommendations by at least two recognised cultural figures or an artistic association and one recognised cultural figure.

Previous laureates of the Young Cultural Figure Award have been Ööülikool /Night University/ series editor Jaan Tootsen (2010); Marius Peterson, actor, translator and theatre director (2009); poet Kristiina Ehin (2008); ballerina Luana Georg (2007); conductor Helena Tulve (2006); theatre director Jaanus Rohumaa (2005); composer Anu Tali (2004), literary critic Jan Kaus (2003); and composer Tõnu Kõrvits and folk musician Krista Sildoja (2002).
