President Ilves: Estonian design, innovation and creativeness will reap success

09.03.2011

The President, Mr. Toomas Hendrik Ilves, today paid a visit to Renard Motorcycles, where Mr. Andres Uibomäe, one of the owners of the company, introduced the President to an ambitious project of taking Estonian-made motorcycles to an international market.

Renard Motorcycles, a company set up three years ago as a successor to Renard Cycles, which was originally established back in 1938 and destroyed during a large-scale air raid on 9 March 1944, will launch the production of hand-made motorcycles this year. The project is being supported by Enterprise Estonia.

According to the management of the company, Renard Motorcycles represents a brand of motorcycles that are characterised by strong personality, good design, and impeccable workmanship and assembly, which proves that Estonia is not just a sub-contracting country but can also manufacture something contemporary itself.

The United States of America and Western Europe are seen as the main target markets.

“I do hope that Estonian design, innovative thinking and your creativeness will bring you success,” said President Ilves. “This is something that we all need in order to become successful companies in foreign markets. Therefore – do not be afraid to fail and have more self-confidence and faith in being successful and international.”
