New director of the Office of the President of Republic is Mr. Siim Raie

The President, Mr. Toomas Hendrik Ilves, today signed a resolution to appoint Mr. Siim Raie, the former Director General of the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, to the position of Director of the Office of the President of the Republic.

“I am delighted that Mr. Siim Raie accepted the proposal to join the ranks of the public service and I am sure that we will all benefit from his experience and knowledge,” the President said. “He is a man with a good social nerve, who understands society well and has also proven himself as a strong leader.”

Mr. Siim Raie, who graduated from Kiviõli 1st Secondary School and then Estonian Business School, had been working at the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry since October 1995 and as Director General of the same institution since autumn 2002.

Mr. Siim Raie is a member of either the Executive or Supervisory Board of NGO Estonian Centre for Standardisation, National Defence Promotion Foundation, Credit and Export Guarantee Fund Kredex, Estonian Qualifications Authority, Open Estonia Foundation and Healthy Estonia Foundation. Mr. Raie is also a member of the Board of Directors and Budget Committee of the Eurochambres, presidium of the Baltic Association of Chambers of Commerce (BCCA), a member of the National Heritage Board and the Statistical Council, and he also belongs to a group of business advisers on the Council of the Baltic Sea States.

He has been awarded honorary decorations from Estonia, Portugal, Belgium and Lithuania.

He can speak English, German and Russian.

Mr. Siim Raie will take up his position as the Director of the Office of the President of the Republic as of 21 March. The former Director of the Office of the President of the Republic, Mr. Rain Saks, has been employed as Director General of the Information Board since 10 February.
