President Ilves to depart for working visit to Latvia

The President, Mr. Toomas Hendrik Ilves, will today drive to Jurmala, close to Riga, at the invitation of the Latvian Head of State, Mr. Valdis Zatlers. Regional co-operation, the planned Rail Baltica and Via Baltica infrastructural projects that will connect the Baltic states with the rest of Europe, and issues linked to energy security will be discussed at the meeting of the two presidents.

Later in Riga, President Ilves will award the Order of the Cross of Terra Mariana to the former Latvian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Aivis Ronis, who represented the Baltic states in the group involved in the development of NATO’s new strategic concept.

The President will return to Estonia later tonight.
