President of the Republic’s Cultural Foundation announces competition for Young Cultural Figure Prize

The prize is intended for Estonian cultural figures under 35 years of age, whose work and cultural activities have significantly contributed to the promotion of Estonia and its culture in the world. The President of the Republic’s Cultural Foundation announced the competition for the 75,000 EEK Young Cultural Figure Prize.

The prize is intended for Estonian cultural figures under 35 years of age, whose work and cultural activities have significantly contributed to the promotion of Estonia and its culture in the world. The Young Cultural Figure Prize is financed by Toomas Luman, a member of the Cultural Foundation Board.

The deadline for submitting applications is 14th May 2010. The candidates themselves, their advisors, teachers, and employers, as well as Members of the Cultural Foundation Board, may nominate candidates.

In order to apply, a written application must be submitted with personal data and a short biography (name, address, education, and professional activities), a description of the candidate’s creative activities, and recommendations from at least two recognised cultural figures or from one creative association and one recognised cultural figure.

This year, the prize will be awarded for the ninth time. In previous years, the recipients of the Young Cultural Figure Prize have included actor, director, and translator Marius Peterson (2009), poet Kristiina Ehin (2008), ballerina Luana Georg (2007), composer Helena Tulve (2006), theatrical director Jaanus Rohumaa (2005), conductor Anu Tali (2004), literary critic Jan Kaus (2003), and composer Tõnu Kõrvits and folk musician Krista Sildoja (2002).
