Board of President of the Republic’s Cultural Foundation grants Young Scientist Award to Mait Müntel

The Board of the President of the Republic’s Cultural Foundation decided to grant this year’s Young Scientist Award to Mr. Mait Müntel, a researcher of National Institute of Chemical Physics and Biophysics, who specialises in the research of high-energy physics.

President Toomas Hendrik Ilves will present the award on Monday, 14th December at 16:00.

Mr. Mait Müntel defended his doctoral dissertation in 2008 in Tartu University, the subject of the paper being “Detection of Double-Charged Higgs’s Boson on CMS-Detector”. While researching his for doctorate, he also worked at the National Institute of Chemical Physics and Biophysics and Institute of Theoretical Physics of the same university.

The amount of the Young Scientist Award of the President of the Republic’s Cultural Foundation is 75,000 EEK, and it is financed by entrepreneur Toomas Luman. The award is intended for young Estonian scientists under the age of 35 years, who have a doctoral degree, and is conducting his or her research at an Estonian or foreign university.

Last year, President Ilves granted the Young Scientist Award to Ms. Veronika Kalmus, a sociologist and media scholar.
