President Ilves en route to Poland for working visit

President Toomas Hendrik Ilves flew to Warsaw, Poland, this morning where he will meet the Polish Head of State.

“Poland is an important country not just in our region but in Europe in general and, therefore, the meetings of the presidents of Estonia and Poland to discuss foreign and security policy issues are highly useful,” said the Estonian Head of State.

The meeting of the presidents Toomas Hendrik Ilves and Lech Kaczynski will focus on the future of the European Union and the local policy of the union, energy security, co-operation between the Baltic Sea region countries, and NATO’s most important international mission – Afghanistan.

The Estonian Head of State will also give a presentation in the Natolin campus of the College of Europe in Warsaw on the accomplishments of Estonia and Poland in the six years since joining the European Union.

President Ilves will return to Estonia on 8th December.
