16.11.2009

President Toomas Hendrik Ilves today visited AS Wendre in Pärnu, one of the largest textile manufacturing companies in Europe, and opened a new production facility for OÜ Stram, which belongs to the Trading House Scandinavia AB group.

The owner of the group, Mr. Peter Hunt, and the Manager of Wendre, Mr. Vahur Roosaar, provided overviews of the companies’ current status and future plans. President Ilves acknowledged Wendre for penetrating foreign markets and increasing the company’s turnover in the current complicated economic situation.

“I have the pleasure of seeing how investments in innovation and automated production, made at the right time, allow for the development of a company and the creation of new jobs even during these economically difficult times. This is exactly what will ensure the success of our companies in international markets and maintain employment for people,” said president Ilves, as he acknowledged the operations and management of Wendre.

AS Wendre and OÜ Stram currently employ approximately 700 people. AS Wendre’s production facilities are also located in Sweden, Poland and China, aside from Pärnu and Vändra.
