“This is a difficult time for Georgia, but luckily Tbilisi has friends that support you – in the name of the future of Georgia,” President Toomas Hendrik Ilves said at today’s meeting with Georgian Prime Minister Nika Gilauri. “This is a difficult time for Georgia, but luckily Tbilisi has friends that support you – in the name of the future of Georgia,” President Toomas Hendrik Ilves said at today’s meeting with Georgian Prime Minister Nika Gilauri.

“Our cooperation is focused on the development of the Georgian state,” the Estonian Head of State stressed.

“The world supports the territorial integrity of Georgia. However, we all understand that the problem of Abkhazia and South Ossetia cannot be resolved in the near future,” President Ilves said. “It is important to understand that the best guarantee for arriving at a solution is a democratic and politically stable Georgia that has successful foreign relations and is developing economically.”

“We hope that Georgia can peacefully resist the provocations that have repeatedly struck you, and which may recur. I understand that this is complicated, but I stress – this is an inescapable necessity,” the Estonian Head of State said.

Internally, it is important that the opposition in Georgia also finds its place in the political dialogue, President Ilves said.
