At the meeting today between President Toomas Hendrik Ilves and the Georgian Foreign Minister, Gregory Vashadze, the main focus was given to the situation in Georgia and the future of the country.

“Estonia, like the European Union, would like to see Russia fully honour the peace plan – promoted in August 2008 by the President of France, Mr. Nicolas Sarkozy, and served to end the military activities – by withdrawing its forces to pre-conflict positions and allowing international observers access to Abkhazia and South Ossetia,” commented the Estonian Head of State.

President Ilves considered increasing the internal stability of Georgia to be of utmost importance.

“Democratic reforms, economic stability, greater uniformity in society, and, most importantly, a focus on the future – these are the guarantees that will bring Georgia consistently closer to Europe,” said the Estonian Head of State.
