In Kadriorg today, President Toomas Hendrik Ilves met with businessmen Jüri Käo, Toomas Luman, Veikko Maripuu and Enn Veskimägi In Kadriorg today, President Toomas Hendrik Ilves met with businessmen Jüri Käo, Toomas Luman, Veikko Maripuu and Enn Veskimägi, with whom he exchanged ideas on the current situation and future prospects of the Estonian economy.

It was generally recognized that to a great extent, Estonia’s transition to the euro will create the foundation for long-term economic growth.

Foreign investments are an important form of assistance that can help us recover from this crisis. This belief is backed by an understanding that the euro is not a miracle drug, but without the euro, a quick recovery from this crisis will not occur,” said President Ilves. According to him, in the eyes of foreign investors and our export partners, accession to the euro zone means an increase in Estonia’s trustworthiness, which in turn provides the opportunity to develop the stable environment necessary for economic growth.

According to the Head of State, the fulfilment of the criteria necessary for transition to the euro is an important goal for the entire society.

“Since the society is ready to make an effort in the name of this goal, the government and Riigikogu possess the required preconditions to make the necessary decisions,” said the Head of State.

The participants of the meeting agreed that one cannot concur with those who pessimistically believe that striving to accede to the euro zone is not worth the effort and can be postponed indefinitely.
