President Ilves is on a working visit to Lithuania

President Toomas Hendrik Ilves traveled on a working visit to Lithuania today, where he will attend events in Šiauliai marking the fifth anniversary of the NATO enlargement.

The Estonian Head of State will meet with Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus and Latvian President Valdis Zatlers. The topics at the meeting will include energy security, the EU Neighborhood Policy, the impending NATO summit in Strasbourg, and the EU-US summit, which will take place in Prague on April 5. The Presidents of the Baltic countries will also hold a joint press conference.

At the Lithuanian Air Force base in Šiauliai, the Heads of State will be briefed on the NATO Baltic air policing mission and NATO Quick Reaction Alert program. Thereafter, the Presidents will hold a press briefing.

The President of the Republic will also participate in a flower-laying ceremony at the memorial to Lithuanian freedom fighters in the village of Menaiciai and he will attend a reception hosted by the Lithuanian Minister of Defense.

President Ilves will return to Estonia this evening.
