The President of the Republic will travel on an official visit to Croatia

14.03.2009

On Monday, March 16th, President Toomas Hendrik Ilves will travel on an official visit to Croatia at the invitation of Croatian President Stjepan Mesić.

“Croatia has been very successful in its convergence with NATO and the European Union. Its example should also encourage more energetic reforms in the other countries of the region,” said President Ilves recalling that his visit comes only a short time before Croatia “sits down at the NATO table” as a full-ledged member. “Estonia supports the accession of Croatia to the European Union as soon as Zagreb is ready.”

The Estonian Head of State will meet with Croatian President Mesić, Speaker of the Parliament Luka Bebić and Prime Minister Ivo Sanader. He will also meet with Milan Moguš, President of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts and visit the city of Varaždin.

President Ilves will return to Estonia on the evening of March 18th.
