President Ilves presented the Tiger Achievers awards today

20.02.2009

"Estonia's greatest wealth is our clever people," President Toomas Hendrik Ilves said today at the annual conference of the Tiger's Leap Foundation, where he presented the Tiger Achievers awards.

"When we look back in history, we see that Estonia's successes were achieved with ingenuity, new ideas, and cleverness. Thought, not force makes a small country great," said the Head of State.

"Estonia's growth will be determined by whether we are able to attract talented young people to research and development," President Ilves stressed, adding that we need innovative approaches at all levels.

The Tiger Achievers awards were presented to: Alvo Aabloo from the nonprofit organization Robootika; Enn Ööpik, physics teacher at the Mart Reiniku Upper Secondary School in Tartu; Juri Derõsev, crafts and technology teacher at the Tõnismäe Secondary Science School in Tallinn; Kally Sild, mathematics teacher at the Elva Upper Secondary School; Ahti Pent, crafts and technology teacher at the Tallinn Secondary Science School; Karin Pihl from the Education Department of the Tartu City Government; as well as to the Kihnu Rural Municipality Government and Ristiku Basic School.
