The President of the Republic a unit of the Defence Forces in Viru County

President Toomas Hendrik Ilves visited the Tapa military campus of the Northeast Defence District yesterday, became familiar with the Kellavere radar, and met with the members of the West-Viru Brigade of the Defence League.

At the Tapa Training Center, where both the conscripts and the members of the Defence Forces going on foreign missions are taught, expressed satisfaction that the conditions of service are totally modern.

“I was gratified to meet dedicated and professional members of the Defence Forces, whose education and training make them equal partners for our NATO allies,” President Ilves said.

After become familiar with the Kellavere radar, the Head of State acknowledged that after Estonia achieved an estimable air surveillance capability, the violations of our air border have decreased significantly.

“We have become seers and this is also known by those who regarded the inviolability of Estonia’s air border with a certain disregard,” President Ilves said.

The Head of State also met with members of the West-Viru Brigade of the Defence League, with whom he will discuss the international security situation after the Russian-Georgian war.

During the last year, President Ilves has visited 13 brigades of the Defence League.
