The President of the Republic accepted the credentials of the Peruvian Ambassador

31.10.2008

Yesterday in Kadriorg, President Toomas Hendrik Ilves met with Félix C. Calderón, the Peruvian Ambassador to Estonia, who presented his credentials.

President Ilves and Ambassador Calderón emphasized the good relations between Estonia and Peru and discussed the opportunities for closer cultural cooperation. Both countries are characterized by rapidly developing economies, and therefore, the mutual interest in developing economic relations that have been modest to date was also discussed at the meeting.

Estonia and Peru have had relations since 1922, when Estonia joined the League of Nations, of which Peru was a founding member already in 1919. Peru was also among those that most quickly re-recognized the restoration of Estonia’s independence.

Ambassador Calderón resides in Helsinki.
