The President of the Republic announced a competition entitled “My Estonia” for historical research papers

On the occasion of the beginning of the new school year, President Toomas Hendrik Ilves announced a competition entitled “My Estonia” for research papers by historians.
The competition, which is being held for the tenth year and is intended for students, is organized by the Estonian History Teachers’ Association and the Körber Foundation of Hamburg.
The objective of the research paper competition is to intensify young people’s interest in history and broaden their horizons, as well as to maintain communications between generations and give meaning to national values.
The research papers will be evaluated by a jury that is comprised of representatives from various scientific institutions and organizations. The evaluation will be based on the originality of the research paper, the use of information sources, skill at synthesizing, and relevance of the paper to the topic.
The deadline for submitting papers for the 2008/2009 academic year is April 1, 2009, and the rules for competition are available on the website of the Estonian History Teachers’ Association at http://www.eas.edu.ee/.
